Electricity consumers in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State have declared a boycott of electricity bill payments to Kano Electricity Distribution Company, vowing no light, no payment to express their grievances.
Conveying the action in a statement, the Public Relations Secretary of the Bichi Sodangi Development Association (BISDA), Comrade Na’allazi Bichi, stated that the action against KEDCO follows the failure of the power firm to meet its obligations in providing steady and reliable electricity to the area.
“We have resolved that our people should suspend payment of electricity bills until there is a noticeable improvement in power supply,” Na’allazi said in the statement.
The group directed all residents across Bichi to comply with the directive, emphasizing that the action was a collective stand to demand better service delivery.
The residents vowed to take all lawful steps necessary to protect the rights and interests of the community, stressing that access to electricity is a basic service that must be adequately provided.
Na’allazi disclosed that following the announcement, representatives of the community held a meeting with officials of KEDCO and security agencies.
He added:“At the meeting, we made our position clear, there must be improvement in electricity supply before any reconsideration of bill payment”
