The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 20 individuals across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for alleged vote buying, vote selling, and obstruction of electoral officials during Saturday’s Area Council elections.
The operatives also recovered over ₦17 million was recovered in the operation.
Head of Media and Publicity, EFCC, Dele Oyewale, disclosed that the arrests targeted suspects in various area councils, with offences ranging from vote trading to interference with electoral officers.
“One of the suspects was apprehended with ₦13,500,000 in a vehicle parked beside a polling unit in Kwali Area Council,” he revealed.
The arrests were distributed as follows:
two in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, and four in Kwali.
The Commission confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspects would face prosecution.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the statement said.
