Nigeria’s national grid has been successfully restored following a grid disturbance that occurred on Tuesday, the Nigerian Independent System Operator, has said.
The restoration started before noon on Tuesday and has since been completed, it said.
It stated that electricity supply had been fully restored across the affected areas.
“The national grid has been fully restored and electricity supply across the affected areas has since returned to normal,” NISO added
Confirming this in a statement, the operator said the national grid experienced a voltage disturbance which originated from the Gombe Transmission Substation.
The disturbance, it said, quickly spread across the network, affecting the Jebba, Kainji and Ayede transmission substations.
NISO said the incident led to the tripping of some transmission lines and generating units, resulting in a partial system collapse.
“The event was accompanied by the tripping of some transmission lines and generating units, resulting in a partial system collapse,” it said.
The system operator said that corrective actions were immediately taken to stabilise the grid.
“Appropriate corrective actions were immediately implemented to stabilise the system and restore normal operations,” NISO added.
It explained that the disturbance did not result in a total grid collapse, contrary to reports in some sections of the media.
“The incident only affected part of the grid, therefore not a total collapse as reported by some media organisations,” the operator said.
