Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Persons with Disabilities and strengthening inclusive policies and interventions in the state.
He gave the promise on Sunday, when his Special Assistant on Disability Matters, Hon. Omomofe Koledoye, paid him a thank-you visit, in appreciation of his unwavering commitment to inclusive governance and his support for the disability community in Ondo.
He commended the Special Assistant for her dedication and advocacy, assuring her that all the issues presented would receive careful consideration.
He directed that the names of board members of agency should be forwarded to him through the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Osamaye, for approval once the disability community present their representatives accordingly.
Speaking earlier, Hon. Koledoye expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for approving and releasing funds for the successful celebration of the last International Day for Persons with Disabilities.
She noted that the gesture reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to leave no one behind in governance and development.
She engaged the Governor on several critical issues affecting Persons with Disabilities in the state, highlighting the need for strengthened institutional support, improved welfare, and greater visibility for the disability community in public life.
She implored the Governor to consider the provision of a vehicle for the disability community as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ondo State.
According to her, such a gesture would be historic and unprecedented, describing it as a record-breaking act of inclusion, as no Governor has made such a provision for the disability community since the state was created on 3rd February 1976.
She further mentioned the issue of composition of the new board of the Agency for the welfare of Persons with Disabilities, which will drive many more impactful and inclusiveness in governance when the new board is eventually inaugurated.
The visit further reinforced the shared vision of the Ondo State Government to build a more inclusive, just, and compassionate society as the Sunshine State marks its golden jubilee.
During the visit, Hon. Omomofe Koledoye presented an award of Excellence in leadership and inclusiveness to the Governor on behalf of the entire disability community.
