Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has warned his players ahead of the Christmas break, saying returning out of shape will not be tolerated.
He revealed that the squad is closely monitored before and after the holidays.
According to him, every player is weighed, and any significant weight gain could have serious consequences.
He said:“Yesterday we weighed all the players, and after Christmas, I’ll be there checking how many pounds they gained.
“They come back heavier. They can eat, but I’ll control it.”
He emphasized that professionalism must be maintained even during the festive period, adding that players who return overweight risk being left behind.
He warned that a player who is in perfect condition before the break but comes back 6.5 pounds heavier would not be selected.
“Imagine a player who’s in perfect shape comes back 6.5 pounds heavier, he’ll stay in Manchester and won’t be called up,” he said.
