Nigeria records 33% increase in arrests of major suspects and a 40% rise in the rescue of abducted victims of kidnapping in Nigeria.

The development is attributed to stronger intelligence coordination and swift response efforts, especially in Kogi and Zamfara states.

Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, disclosed this on Monday while delivering a comprehensive report at the November edition of the Monthly National Joint Security Press Briefing, organised by NOA in Abuja, underscoring notable progress in Nigeria’s security landscape and anti-corruption efforts.

The seizure of arms and ammunition, he said, reached record highs with multiple caches recovered in the Northwest and Southeast regions.

He added:”Importantly, fatalities from violent crimes declined by 12%, signaling the success of joint operations and early warning systems. Cross-border security interventions also increased, reflecting improved collaboration among the military, immigration, and security agencies”.

He highlighted the government’s commitment to data-driven collaboration and citizen intelligence as vital to sustaining national peace, applauding the sacrifices of the security forces.

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) reported active engagement in October with 44 petitions received and ₦840 million alongside $919,000 recovered.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) provided a two-year summary showing cumulative recoveries exceeding ₦566 billion and $411 million across multiple currencies, with over 1,500 properties forfeited.

Funds recovered have been redirected into public welfare through initiatives like the Students Loan Scheme and Consumer Credit Scheme, reinforcing transparency and accountability.

Onilu further noted successful regulatory enforcement actions by agencies including NAFDAC, NDLEA, NIS, and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), revealing increased crackdowns on counterfeit goods, drug syndicates, human trafficking, and improved road safety performance with lower fatal crash rates during the Ember months.

The NOA’s communications drive intensified public engagement through the Joint Security Communication Framework, reaching over 32 million Nigerians through traditional and digital media.

He emphasized the synergy across government agencies as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, marked by visible, data-backed improvements in security, governance, and public confidence.

He implored all citizens to remain vigilant, verify information before sharing, partner with local leaders for peace, and support security agencies, underscoring that collective courage and collaboration will continue to build a safer Nigeria.
