Oyeyemi said both Azeez and Owolaja were aware that the car was related to a crime before they agreed to buy the car for a paltry sum of N150, 000.

Oyeyemi added: “In its determination to bring all those directly or indirectly involved in the gruesome murder of Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye and their only son Oreoluwa to justice, operatives of Ogun state Police Command apprehended the two suspects who bought the stolen car of the deceased.

“The two suspects, Azeez Usman and Owolaja Aanuoluwapo were arrested at different locations in the state following the confession of the earlier arrested suspects who informed the police that the car was sold to Azeez Usman at rate of N150, 000.

“After killing the couple, the suspects got hold of their son OreOluwa and their adopted child, Felix Olorunyomi, tied them with rope and put them in the booth of the Hyundai car with which they drove them to Ogun river bridge at Adigbe area, where they threw them into the river.

“The suspects later parked the car somewhere in Oke Ata area of Abeokuta, but later contacted Owolaja AanuOluwapo who went there and drove the vehicle to Azeez Usman’s workshop where the car was butchered into pieces and sold in parts.

“Police investigation revealed that the two suspects were duly informed that the car was stolen, but they went ahead and bought it at the rate of N150,000.”

Noting there was low immunisation for the pentavalent vaccine, poor surveillance and limited laboratory capacity to properly diagnose the disease, the agency added that it was supporting intensified activities to conduct routine immunisation among children under two years, particularly in Kano State.

The agency said there have been harmonisation of surveillance and laboratory data from across states and laboratories with the sensitisation/training of clinical and surveillance officers on the presentation, prevention, and surveillance for diphtheria in states where rapid response teams were deployed.

Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, NCDC’s Director General, said: “Surveillance is everybody’s responsibility; it is not just enough to see. If you see something suspicious, report it to your local government, report to NCDC, and then they can investigate.”

On the cholera situation across the country, the NCDC reported, “Six states – Cross River (242 cases), Ebonyi (86 cases), Niger (38 cases), Abia (35 cases), and Ondo (10 cases) account for 96 per cent of all cumulative cases.
