The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL),has implored the presidential and governorship candidates in the country to tell Nigerians their anti-corruption drive.
Its chairman,Comrade Debo Adeniran, threw the challenge at a press conference in Lagos on Saturday.
According to him, since the commencement of campaigns, none of presidential and governorship candidates has been able to state categorically what the anti-corruption policy will be if he wins.
His organisation has made several fruitless attempts to reach the offices of the various political parties in Lagos to urge them to include their anti-corruption policies in their manifestoes,he said.
He added:“We made several futile attempts to reach the offices of the various political parties in Lagos. We wanted to tell them to make anti-corruption and accountability part of their agenda and include it in their manifestos.
“We approached the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). They said they did not have the power to force the political parties to do so.Majority of the members of the National Assembly are enmeshed in corruption and the minority cannot do it.
“So the candidates should tell us that they will make the existing anti-corruption laws operational. They will provide enough money for the anti-corruption agencies for the fight against corruption.
“They should promise to make enough money and resources available to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to hire experts to verify the assets of public officers. They should promise that people convicted of corruption should be in a special uniform with their names and offences are boldly written on their shirts.”
