Despite declining sympathy towards the national strike called by the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, the Executive members of the union have upheld a decision for an extension of the strike for another six months.
Sources close to the ongoing meeting between the two parties said the “no work, no pay” stand by the Federal Government is part of what is being deliberated at the ASUU NEC meeting, which may have also inspired the lecturers to extend the action by another six months.
At the last meeting between the Nimi Briggs led reconcilliation committee, ASUU officials made attempts to compel government to pay them their six months salaries as one of the conditions for suspending the strike.
The Minister of Education Adamu Adamu had objected to such demand while featuring at a media interactive session coordinated by the Presidential Media Team in Abuja, recently.
