Federal government has redeemed outstanding allocation of houses to the 22 victorious members of the Nigeria Super Eagles who won the 1994 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Tunisia at the National Housing Estate located in Minna, Niger state.
Each of the 22 team members was promised a house in any state of their choice after emerging victorious, though belatedly as some of the players have died after many years of waiting without enjoying the said promise.
President Muhammadu Buhari expressed gladness fulfilling the promise though belatedly at the commissioning of the National Housing project (Phase one) at the three arms zone, eastern by-pass Maitumbi area Minna the state capital.
The President Buhari,who was represented by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada said the housing project is in fulfilment of promise of change and applauded Niger state government for providing the land for the houses.
The federal government has issued a maintenance contracts to small businesses to ensure maintenance and kept in good repairs, adding that ordinary Nigerians at the bottom of pyramid such as; artisans builders food vendors skilled and unskilled workers were not left out of the present administrations’ economic value chain.
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso in a remark said the Phase-one consisting of 80 units programme of the Federal government will go a long way in alleviating housing related challenges in Niger state.
Governor Bello also said that through a National Housing Funds which every Nigerian above the age of 21 in any paid employment to a low interest is entitled to government funded loan through Federal Mortgage.
