No fewer than 100 indigent students from different tertiary institutions have received bursary award of N10,000 from Ikorodu Local Government Area, Lagos.
The chairman, Ikorodu Local Government Area, Mr Wasiu Adesina, said the awardees were selected from the seven wards that made up of the council.
He added:”It gladdens my heart to perform another epoch making event in the life of the youths of Ikorodu local government. This event marks a clear departure from a rhetoric of promises that will never be fulfilled. This is a government that says it and by the grace of God fulfill promised made despite all odds.
“Equally we have been consistently delivered on our promise to give bursary award to indigent student every year,” .
According to him, the council has distributed learning materials to primary school pupils as well as providing chairs and benches to some primary schools in the local government.
He said the council also distributed free forms for the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (for private candidates)  and  Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination forms to some students.
He said his administration would continue to support education as one of its focal point agenda despite the meagre resources received from the Federal Government.
He advised the student to face their studies and shun vices that would derail  their academic career.
“We call on the youths to vote for us during our campaign about four years ago with promises to support them on their education pursuit. The consistent promise to give bursary award to student may appear impossible considering the resources at our disposal.
“We are not as lucky as LG and Local Council Developmental Areas that recieved huge sum of money as federal allocation.
“But with prudent management of resources at our disposal all our campaign promises will be delivered,” he said.
He chairman, who implored the beneficiaries to  excel in their academic pursuit and  give back to the local government, also  promised to employ the best graduate into the revenue and fiscal commission to help shore up the council’s internally generated revenue.
The National President, National Association of Ikorodu Division student, Mr Samuel Soyiga, commended the chairman and advised the beneficiary to judiciously use  the money for what it was meant for.
Another beneficiaries, Mr Oyinlola Balogun, also advised his colleagues to ensure they have the best performance, shun cultism and activities  that will tarnish the image of  their families.
